The alternator cable needs to be inspected and rerouted on the products listed below. The existing cable can interfere with the transmission oil cooler tube. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 06Mar2008 when scheduling this service.

Rework Procedure
1- Check for a potential interference between the 2461553/">246-1553 Alternator Cable with the 242-8892 Transmission Oil Cooler Tube. The area to check is at the rear back of the cab on the right side, where the alternator cable is crossing the tubes. See picture for location of potential interference:

2- If the plastic protection of the alternator cable is not damaged, go to step 5 to improve the alternator cable routing.
If the plastic protection is damaged, please go to next step for alternator cable replacement.
3- Remove the left hand side platform. Please refer to RENR8859 "Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install" for appropriate procedure.
4- Remove the alternator fixing points circled in red on the picture below (8 points), including cable terminal. Store all bolts and clips.

5- Remove the alternator cable fixing points circled in red on the picture below (7 points), including cable terminal. Store all bolts and clips.

6- Modify the alternator cable routing at the front of the engine, refering to following picture:

7- Reinstall all other clips and bolts and check for any interference.
8- Reinstall platform following RENR8859 "Steering Cylinder - Remove and Install" for appropriate procedure.
