The torque converter has an impeller clutch and a lockup clutch. The lockup clutch provides direct drive capability. Inside the torque converter, an impeller is fastened to the hub of a hydraulically activated clutch. The impeller clutch is locked in the fully engaged position. This allows the maximum amount of torque transfer. The impeller clutch disengages during directional shifts in order to allow directional shifts at full throttle.The power train electronic control module (ECM) controls the impeller clutch. The left service brake pedal is also used to vary the amount of torque converter capacity in order to control the wheel slip. The left service brake pedal also varies the amount of torque converter capacity in order to increase the hydraulic system response.The power train ECM automatically determines when the lockup clutch is engaged in second speed, third speed and fourth speed for the 834G Wheel Tractor and in first speed and second speed for the 836G Landfill Compactor.Power from the output shaft of the torque converter is sent through drive shaft (3) to input transfer gears (4). The output gear of the input transfer gears turns the input shaft of the transmission (5) .The 834G Wheel Tractor has six clutches in the transmission. The six clutches are hydraulically activated. The six clutches provide four forward speeds and three reverse speeds. Speed and direction are selected by using the STIC control.The 836G Landfill Compactor has six clutches in the transmission. The six clutches are hydraulically activated. The six clutches provide two forward speeds and two reverse speeds. Speed and direction are selected by using the speed switch and the direction switch. The speed switch and the direction switch are located on the steering wheel. The speed switch and the direction switch are located on the STIC steering lever if your machine is equipped with a steering lever. The maximum programmable gears that are allowed for this model are two forward gears and two reverse gears.The transmission output shaft sends power through the idler gears in output transfer gears (12) to the output gear of the output transfer gears. The output gear sends power through drive shaft (11) to rear drive pinion (10). The output gear also sends power to front drive pinion (14) through drive shaft (6) and drive shaft (7) and through bearing cage (13) .Each pinion, bevel gear, and differential gear has a specific axle. Each gear turns a specific axle. The axles are connected to final drives (8) and (15). The final drives turn the wheels.
