There are four horn springs and horn brushes that go under the ring. Be sure not to misplace them during installation.15. Install bracket (13) and four bolts (10) to steering metering pump (9). Install the four horn springs, the four horn brushes, and ring (11) to steering metering pump (9). Using a rubber mallet, install insulator (12) to steering metering pump (9). 16. Install steering wheel (4) to the steering metering pump.17. Install three pins (7) and nut (8) to steering wheel (4). 18. Install spring (6), gasket (5), button (3), retainer (2), and three head screws (1) to steering wheel (4).19. Check the fluid level of the hydraulic tank. Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Make sure the outside of the steering metering pump is thoroughly clean prior to disassembly. Mark and identify the components of each metering group section for assembly purposes. 2. Remove two bolts (1) from housing (3). Remove housing (3) and governor control shaft (2) from steering metering pump (4). 3. Remove retaining ring (5), snap ring (6), governor control shaft (2) with ball bearing (7), and retainer (8) from housing (3).4. Remove ball bearing (7) from governor control shaft (2). 5. Remove screw (9) from steering metering pump (4). 6. Using a 10-24 screw, remove seat (11), O-ring seal (10), O-ring seal (12), ball (13), and ball retainer (14) from housing (4). Inspect O-ring seals for wear and damage, and replace if necessary. 7. Remove seven bolts (15) from cap (16). Remove cap (16) and gerotor assembly (17) from housing (4). 8. Remove O-ring seal (18) from gerotor assembly (17). Inspect O-ring seal for wear and damage, and replace if necessary. 9. Remove O-ring seal (19) from spacer (21). Inspect the O-ring seal for wear and damage and replace if necessary. Remove gerotor sleeve assembly (20) and spacer (21) from housing (4). 10. Remove O-ring seal (22) from housing (4). Inspect O-ring seal for wear and damage, and replace if necessary.
Use care not to scratch or damage the polished surface of the control sleeve assembly. If the polished surface is scratched, pump efficiency will be reduced.
11. Remove retaining ring (23) and control sleeve assembly (24) from housing (4). 12. Remove pin (25) from control sleeve assembly (24). 13. Remove control sleeve (26)
