At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Cap and plug all lines, hoses and tubes to prevent foreign material from entering the system. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal. 1. Disconnect hoses (1) from steering cylinder (2). Put caps or plugs in the ends of the hoses to prevent any oil loss.2. Fasten nylon strap (3) and a hoist on steering cylinder (2).3. Disconnect lubrication line (4) from the rod end of steer cylinder (2). 4. Remove the bolts and plate (5) and the pin that holds the rod end of the steering cylinder to the steering links.5. Remove pin (6) and pin (7) that hold the head end of the steering cylinder to the frame.6. Remove the steering cylinder from the machine. The weight of the steering cylinder is 241 kg (535 lb).Install Steering Cylinders
1. Fasten nylon strap (1) and a hoist on steering cylinder (2). Put it in position on the machine as shown.2. Install pin (4) that holds the head end of the steering cylinder on the machine. Install pin (3) that holds pin (4) in place.3. Connect the rod end of the steering cylinder to steering links (6). Install the pin, pin retaining plate (5) and the bolts that hold the pin in place. 4. Connect lubrication (7) line to the rod end of the cylinder.5. Connect hoses (8) to steering cylinder (2). Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for all fluid capacities and the proper filling procedures.Disassemble & Assemble Steering Cylinder

Check the condition of the bearing sleeves (1) and (10), located in the end of cylinder body assembly (2) and rod assembly (11). Use Tooling (B) to replace worn or damaged bearings with new parts.2. Put the steering cylinder assembly on Tool (A).3. Use Tool (C) to remove bolts (16) from cylinder body assembly (2).4. Remove rod assembly (11) and head (9) from cylinder body assembly (2).5. Use Tool (C) to remove locknut (3) and piston (6) from rod assembly (8).6. Remove ring (4) and seal assembly (5) from piston (6).7. Remove head (9) from rod assembly (11).8. Remove O-ring seal (7) and back-up ring (8) from the outside of head (9).9. Remove lip seal (15) from head (9).10. Remove U-cup seal (14), seal assembly (13) and wear ring (12) from head (9).
