Install the plate assembly (not shown). The plate assembly is located behind governor drive gear (8) .
Position governor drive gear (8) on camshaft (7) . Install bolts (6) .
Move the camshaft to the rear against the plate assembly.
Put shims (4) in position on pinion assembly (2) . Install new O-ring seals (5) . Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring seals.
Put pinion assembly (2) in position in rear housing (1) . Install the bolts that hold pinion assembly (2) .Note: Be sure that the camshaft is all the way to the rear against the plate assembly when you check the backlash between the gears. Also, be sure that the pinion is forced upward against the plate assembly when you check the backlash between the gears. When you set the backlash, be sure that the camshaft is not placed in a forward position. There will not be enough clearance between the gears when the camshaft moves rearward.
Use Tooling (A) to check the backlash between the pinion gear and the governor drive gear. As needed, add shims or remove shims (4) in order to obtain a backlash of 0.25 0.05 mm (0.010 0.002 inch).
Install coupling (3) .End By:
Install the camshaft drive gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Drive Gear - Install".
Install the governor (actuator). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Governor Actuator - Remove and Install".
