Start By:
Remove the final drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Remove".Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove shaft (1). Use two people to remove carrier (2). The weight of carrier (2) is approximately 27 kg (60 lb).

Remove bolts (3) and retainer (4). Remove shaft (5). Remove washers (6) and gear (8). Remove roller assemblies (7) from gear (8.). Repeat this step for the remaining gears.

Use Tooling (A) in order to remove retaining ring (9). Remove washer (10) .

Remove bolts (11) and retainers (12). Remove ring gear (13) .

Remove bolt (14) and lock (15). Remove nut (16). Remove sprockets (17). Remove bearing cone (18). Remove shaft (19) .

Use a suitable press in order to remove bearing cone (20) from shaft (19) .

Remove bearing cup (21) and seal (22) .

Remove bolts (23) and retainer (24). Remove shims (25). Remove bearing cup (26) .

Install Tooling (B) and remove housing (28) .
