Personal injury can result if the machine moves while checking the service brakes.If the machine begins to move during the check, reduce the engine speed immediately and engage the parking brake.
If the machine moved while testing the service brakes, inspect the service brake components for wear or damage. Repair or replace the worn or damaged service brake components as required before returning the machine to service.
Machine Preparation
Test the service brakes on a dry, level surface.
Check the area around the machine. Make sure that the machine is clear of personnel and clear of obstacles.

Steering frame lock in the STORED position (typical example)
Make sure that the steering frame lock is in the STORED position.Testing Procedure
Fasten the seat belt before testing the service brakes.
Start the engine and raise the bucket slightly.
Apply the service brakes.
Engage the parking brake.
Move the direction switch to the neutral position.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle.
Place the transmission into THIRD speed.
Place the direction switch to the forward position.
Return the direction switch to the neutral position.
Place the direction switch back to the forward position.
Release the parking brake.Note: Service brakes will remain applied.
Gradually increase the engine speed to high idle. The machine should not move.Note: Do not run the engine at high idle for more than 5 seconds.
Reduce the engine speed to low idle.
Engage the parking brake.
Return the direction switch to the neutralposition.
Lower the bucket to the ground.
Stop the engine.
