Remove the crankshaft rear seal. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Rear Seal - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Use a suitable lifting device to support the rear of the engine.

Remove bracket (1) from the flywheel housing.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (2). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 100 kg (220 lb).
Remove bolts (5) and bolts (6).
Remove the covers and bolts (3).
Remove bolts (4).

Remove bolts (7) from the oil pan.
Remove flywheel housing (2) and the gasket from the cylinder block. Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Install a new gasket on the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (B) to the oil pan gasket.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to flywheel housing (2). The weight of the flywheel housing is approximately 100 kg (220 lb). Position flywheel housing (2) on the cylinder block.
Install bolts (4).
Install the covers and bolts (3).
Install bolts (5) and bolts (6).
Tighten the bolts, by using the following procedure.
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 1 through Bolt 8. Tighten to a torque of 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt 9 through Bolt 20. Tighten to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, again tighten Bolt 1 through Bolt 8. Tighten to a torque of 135 14 N m (100 10 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, again tighten Bolt 9 through Bolt 20. Tighten to a torque of 55 7 N m (41 5 lb ft).

Install bolts (7) for the oil pan in the cylinder block and flywheel housing (2). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft).
