Adjustment Procedure
1. If the original case is used, install the original amount of shims (2). If a new case is used, follow this procedure to find the correct amount of shims (2): a. Make a record of dimension "D" on the original transmission case.b. Make a record of dimension "D" on the new case.c. If the new dimension is less than the old dimension, the difference between these dimensions is the amount of shims to be removed from the original amount of shims.d. If the new dimension is more than the old dimension, the difference between these dimensions is the amount of shims to be added to the original amount of shims.Optional Step 1.If the original amount of shims (2) is not known, follow this procedure to find the correct amount of shims (2):a. Use FT1380 Checking Fixture and assemble cage (3), cup (1), cone (4) and pinion (5) into the fixture. Use bolts to hold cage (3) in position.b. Use 8S2328 Dial Indicator to measure the difference in height (step) between the gauge post of the fixture and shoulder (Y) of pinion (5).c. The step dimension plus dimension "D" minus .050 in. (1.27 mm) is the amount of shims (2) needed.2. Install shims (2), cage (3), cup (1), cone (4), pinion (5) and cone (6) in the case. Install cup (6) in cage (8). Install cage (8) in case without shims (9) and tighten the bolts to 10 5 lb. ft. (14 7 N m).3. If the original case is used, install the original amount of shims (22). If a new case is used, follow this procedure to find the correct amount of shims (22): a. Make a record of dimension "A" on the original case.b. Make a record of dimension "A" on the new case.c. If the new dimension is less than the old dimension, the difference between these dimensions is the amount of shims to be removed from the original amount of shims.d. If the new dimension is more than the old dimension, the difference between these dimensions is the amount of shims to be added to the original amount of shims.Optional Step 3.If the original amount of shims (22) is not known, follow this procedure to find the correct amount of shims (22):a. Use FT1381 Checking Fixture and fasten cage assembly (23) to the fixture.b. Install cones (13) on shaft (18).c. Install shaft assembly with cups (11) in cage assembly (23).d. Install plate (21) and bolts (20).e. Install race and roller assembly (16) on the shaft assembly.f. Use 8S2328 Dial Indicator to measure the difference in height (step) between the gauge post of the fixture and face (Z) of race and roller assembly (16).g. The step dimension plus dimension "A" minus .050 in. (1.27 mm) is the amount of shims (22) needed. 4. Install gear (14) in the case.5. Install shaft (18) with race and roller assembly in gear (14). Install retainer (12) with a .020 to .030 in. (0.51 to 0.76
