Instructions For Completing Machine Predelivery Inspection Report
The information in the shaded area will be the only data that is sent to Caterpillar through the SIMS reporting system. The rest of the form serves as a guide to the serviceman in performing the predelivery inspection. The report should be completed on each machine even if no defects are found. This will indicate to Caterpillar that the predelivery inspection was performed.
1. Fill out the first line information completely. The preprinted number "4" under "TYPE" indicates to Caterpillar that all information in this report was recorded during the predelivery inspection. For an industrial engine, enter the engine serial number under "Machine Serial Number".2. Perform the predelivery inspection using the check list, items 1 through 15, plus the operational check list. Enter a "check" mark as shown or "OK" as you complete inspection of each item.3. Report all defects, missing items, maladjustments, etc., in the lower shaded area using one line per problem. Every defect should be entered using the appropriate part number/group number as done in the regular SIMS report. Checking the parts books for every loose bolt is time consuming, but we need this information. Please take time and fill out the report conscientiously. Substitute group numbers can be used instead of actual group numbers, if necessary. The preprinted number "7588" indicates that the predelivery inspection was performed and should not be repeated for reporting defects below. Even if a separate work order is opened to correct a defect found during predelivery inspection, that defect still should be reported in the Machine Predelivery Inspection Report.
4. Enter the appropriate problem description code in the "PROB. DESC." column. All codes and their meanings are listed at the bottom of the form. For the predelivery inspection report only, some special codes such as J, L, M, P, Q, R and Y have been added to facilitate reporting. The following is a brief explanation of problem description codes: A. Structural: Broken, bent, ruptured
B. Surface: Seized, scored, pitted, rusted, chipping or flaking
C. Leaks: Oil, fuel, coolant, air
D. Factory Assembly: Incorrect factory assembly such as seal installed backwards
E. System Malfunction: A component such as a starter does not function and which part is causing the malfunction is unknown.
F. Shipping Damage: Damage occurred while a machine was in transit from the factory.
H. Adjustment: Setting or adjustment such as a relief valve pressure or high idle speed were incorrect and had to be reset.
J. Unsatisfactory Paint: Paint run, unpainted spot
L. Incorrect Fluid Level: Fluid level in various compartments is significantly too low or too high.
M. Wrong Fluid: Incorrect type of fluid in a compartment.
P. Loose/Missing Fasteners: Loose or missing bolts, nuts, locks, etc.
Q. Unsatisfactory Weld: Weld crack, spatter, holes, poor appearance, poor penetration.
R. Wrong/Missing Part: Parts, tools, literature, etc., were incorrect or missing.
Y. Interference: Hose rubbing, wiring harness rubbing against frame, etc.
5. Enter your comment under "explanation of defect" using up to twenty letters to further explain the problem. Comments such as "H.I. 200 RPM LOW," "WIRE CUT AT
