The piston motor is located on the front of the hydraulic tank on the right side of the machine.Piston motor (3) drives three brake cooling pump sections that are located inside the hydraulic tank. The oil from the brake cooling pump sections combines with oil from the gear pump for the hoist and for the brake cooling. The combined oil is used to cool the disc brakes.The speed of the piston motor is determined by the amount of pressure oil that is sent by a variable displacement piston pump. Refer to Systems Operation, "Piston Pump (Brake Cooling Motor Drive)" for additional information about the piston pump.If the pump is fully on, the following maximum speeds can be expected.

( 1 ) This table is only valid when the piston motor is fully on. This happens when the brake oil temperature is VERY HOT and when the high speed braking status is active.Speed sensor (2) for piston motor (3) sends the motor speed to the Brake/Cooling ECM. The Brake/Cooling ECM uses this input to maintain the motor speed. Pressure taps (1) provide access to the pressure of the oil at the screens for front and rear brake cooling.

(4) Case drain filterOil that leaks into the pump housing provides lubrication for the rotating components. This oil leakage is referred to as case drain oil. Case drain oil flows through the case drain port and case drain filter (4) into the steering hydraulic tank.
