Tire Maintenance
Explosive separation of a tire and/or rim parts can cause serious injury or death. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations or see your tire supplier.Always maintain the correct tire pressure. Inflate the tires according to the tire manufacturer's instructions. Do not inflate the tires above the tire manufacturer's recommended pressure.Inspect the tires and wheels prior to moving the trailer package. Do not tow if:* the tire pressure is too high* the tire pressure is too or low* a tire has any cuts or bubbles* a tire has excessive wear* any rims are damaged* any lug bolts or nuts are missingMaintain the torque on the wheel lug nuts to 163 N m (120 lb ft).A certain tire pressure rise during towing is normal, and should not be reduced. High speeds during transporting may produce excessive tire pressures due to heat. Never bleed the air from the tires. REDUCE TOWING SPEED or stop and let the tires cool.Adjust the tire pressure from a distance. Use a long hose with self attaching chuck. Always stand behind the tread when adjusting tire pressure.Do not inflate tires with flammable gases or from systems utilizing an alcohol injector.Running Gear Maintenance
For detailed information regarding the running gear brakes, wheels, suspension, hubs, and bearings, refer to Form MM-2, Dexter Axle Trailer Running Gear Operation, Maintenance, Service.Inspect the wheel bearings. Check the wheel bearing lube level. Fill the wheel bearings only with Multi-Purpose Lithium Grease (MPGL). Do not overfill.Inspect the running gear for damage and wear.
The brake fluid reservoir cap (1) is located on the tongue assembly behind the safety brake actuator (2).Check the brake fluid level. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap in order to check the brake fluid level. Add brake fluid if necessary. Clean the cap. Clean the receptable. Install the cap. After each rental period, inspect all brake line and wiring connections for damage and/or wear. Make repairs as necessary.Inspect the safety chains after each hitch
