(3) Factory ECM I.D. Number (39001000)Each engine platform has a specific engine ECM. The engine ECM is configured from the factory with a unique main calibration file (.mot).The ECM software file is "Read Only". A service technician cannot alter any operating or set point parameters in the ECM. These ECMs cannot be flashed or field programmed by a service technician.All service part replacement engine ECM’s are pre-programmed from the factory. As a best practice, a service technician shall confirm that the factory labeling of the service replacement ECM match the ECM profile data in Table 2 (that is, ECM I.D. number and ECM Calibration (.mot) File Number) prior to installing the service part. Refer to Illustration 3, 4, and Table 2.
Illustration 5 g06124311Once the service replacement engine ECM has been properly installed, the service technician shall connect the appropriate service tool software to the ECM and establish communications.The service technician shall go to the Main or Gauges display screen and then verify that the "Customer Configuration Information" and "Software and Hardware Information" data fields are populated, prior to attempting a start sequence of the generator set. This step ensures that the ECM is properly programmed and ready for use. Refer to Illustration 5.If the ECM requires programming, the ECM is considered a "Non-Conforming"service part and a new service replacement ECM will have to be procured and installed. The ECM is not field programmable nor, can the ECM be returned to the engine manufacturer or Caterpillar Customer Service for programming.Note: The engine manufacturer nor Caterpillar provide custom ECM programming or modifications.Note: All Service Replacement ECM’s will be pre-programmed with the current production version of software that coincides with the stocking date of the engine ECM.
