Install the gaskets, O-ring seals, and the spacer plate on the engine. Install the spacer plate gasket with the following procedure.Note: Thoroughly clean the spacer plate, the bottom surface of the cylinder head, and the top surface of the cylinder block. A new spacer plate gasket and a cylinder head gasket must be installed when the cylinder head is removed.Note: Apply a thin film of clean engine oil on the O-ring seals prior to installation.
For best results, clean all surfaces and dry all surfaces with a solvent that is free of residue.
Apply Tooling (D) as a uniform film to the bottom side of the spacer plate gasket. Position the spacer plate gasket.
Apply Tooling (D) as a uniform film to the top side of the spacer plate gasket. Formulas that dry more slowly increase the time for the procedure.
Once the repairs are completed and the sealant has had adequate time to cure, the engine can be run.
If necessary, Tooling (D) can be removed from metal surfaces with isopropyl alcohol.

Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cylinder head (22). Attach Tooling (B) to the side of cylinder head (22) that is near the turbocharger. The weight of cylinder head (22) is approximately 330 kg (726 lb).
Position cylinder head (22) on the dowel pins in the cylinder block.Note: Apply Tooling (C) to the bolt threads and both sides of the washers. Tighten the bolts in the following step sequence:
Install bolts (20) and bolts (23) according to the following procedure.
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) to a torque of 270 15 N m (199 11 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) to a torque of 450 15 N m (332 11 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, again tighten Bolt (1) through Bolt (26) to a torque of 450 15 N m (332 11 lb ft).
In a numerical sequence, tighten Bolt (27) through Bolt (39) to a torque of 45 7 N m (33 5 lb ft).
Install supports (21).

Install adapter assembly (19) and sealing plate (18). Install bolts (17).

Install damper (16) and bolts (15).
Tighten the bolts (15) to a torque of 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4.

Connect harness assembly (12).
Install cover (11).
Install tube assemblies (10) and (14). Connect hose assembly (13).

Reposition gear (5). Install bolts (4).
Tighten the bolts (4) to a torque of 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4.

Install cover (1) and the O-ring seal.
Install bolts (2) and washers (3).
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".End By:
Install the fuel transfer pump.
