Solenoid Valve (Lift Linkage Raise) SchematicThis fault is recorded when the ECM detects a short to +battery in the electrical path that goes from the ECM to the solenoid back to the ECM. Service Notes: Ensure that the fault that is being analyzed is on hold and that the fault present indicator is ON. Note: The following test procedure may create other faults. Ignore these created faults and clear the faults when the original fault is corrected. Note: All solenoid return lines are joined and connect to contacts J1-7 and J2-3 (wire 716-WH) of the implement ECM.
CHECK SOLENOID.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the solenoid with the fault from the machine harness.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Place the direction lever in the NEUTRAL position.
At the harness connector for the solenoid, measure the voltage from the ECM between contact 1 (wire H716-WH) and contact 2 (wire H713-PK). Note: This test causes the ECM to log an open circuit diagnostic code for this solenoid. Clear this code from the ECM after troubleshooting. Expected Result: The voltage approximately measures battery voltage. Results:
YES - The voltage does measure battery voltage. Proceed to Step 2.
NO - The voltage does NOT measure battery voltage. The solenoid is faulty. Replace the solenoid. STOP.
CHECK HARNESS.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the ECM.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
At the machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the voltage between contact J1-2 (wire A272-BK) and contact J1-10 (wire H713-PK). Expected Result: The voltage is approximately 0 DCV. Results:
YES - The voltage is approximately 0 DCV. The cause of the fault has not been found. Proceed to Step 3.
NO - The voltage is approximately battery voltage. There is a short to +battery in the machine harness. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. STOP.
CHECK IF FAULT REMAINS.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Inspect all harness connectors and reconnect.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter service mode.
Operate the machine and check if the same fault is present. Expected Result: The fault is present. Results: NO - Fault is NOT present. The fault does not exist at this time. The initial fault was probably caused by a poor electrical connection at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation. STOP. YES - Fault is present. The fault has not been corrected. It is unlikely that the ECM is faulty. Exit this procedure and perform this CID FMI procedure again. If the cause of the fault is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". STOP.
