Disconnect the WIF (water in fuel) sensor at the connector and loosen clipping points as needed to allow sensor and pigtail to be removed with the filter housing.

Attach drain line to the drain valve at the bottom of the filter housing.
Loosen the drain valve and bleed screw (10 mm) to drain fuel from the housing. Catch fuel in a suitable container.
Retighten drain valve and bleed screw (hand tight) once fluid flow has stopped. Remove the drain line.
Use a 36 mm wrench or strap wrench to loosen and remove the filter housing from the base.Note: The filter element is retained in the filter housing and will be removed as a single assembly.
Remove the old filter element from the filter housing by loosening the drain valve and unscrewing the filter element from the housing. A small amount of residual fuel will remain in the bottom of the housing which must be dumped into a suitable container.
Clean the inside of the filter housing and filter base with a lint free towel. Inspect sealing surfaces of the filter housing and filter base to ensure no seal material from the old filter is present
Lubricate the sealing surfaces of the new filter element with clean diesel fuel. Install the new filter into the filter housing. The new filter will screw onto the drain valve at the bottom of the housing. Tighten the drain valve (hand tight) to seat the filter fully into the filter housing.Note: Do not pre-fill the fuel filter housing before installation. Contamination could result.

Install the filter housing and filter element into to filter base. Tighten the housing until positive stop is reached. Ensure there is no gap between the filter housing and filter base.
Re-connect the WIF sensor and secure the pigtail as needed.
Prime the fuel system. See Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Fuel System – Prime", for the proper procedure.Note: The secondary/tertiary fuel filters should also be changed at this time. See Operation and Maintenance Manual , "Fuel System Secondary Filter – Replace" for further instructions.
Start the engine and check for leaks.

The secondary fuel filters are located inside the engine compartment on the left side of the machine.These machines were equipped with two different types of filters from the factory. Early machines utilized a spin-on type filter. The spin-on type filters have an integrated filter element and housing. Later machine utilize a cartridge type filter. This filter design has a separate reusable filter housing and only the filter media is replaced. Remove secondary fuel filters (1).
Drain the fuel from the secondary fuel filters into a suitable container.
Clean the mounting base for the secondary fuel filters. Make sure that you remove all of the old seal.
Apply clean diesel fuel to the seal of the new filters.
Install the new filters by hand until the seal of the filters contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the
