CYLINDER AS 3G2898 - Caterpillar

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Position boom (1) on suitable cribbing.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Raise the hood assembly and support the hood assembly. Remove struts (2). Lower the hood assembly.

Disconnect harness assembly (3) .

Attach Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device to hood assembly (4) .
Remove bolts (5) from hood assembly (4). Remove hood assembly (4) .

Disconnect hose assemblies (6) and harness assemblies (7) .

Attach a suitable lifting device to boom cylinder (12). The weight of boom cylinder (12) is approximately 213 kg (470 lb). Remove bolts (10) and plate (11) .

Disconnect grease hose assembly (13). Remove the shims. Reposition pin (14). Use the suitable lifting device in order to lower boom cylinder (12) onto suitable cribbing.
Repeat Steps 10 through 11 for the remaining boom cylinder.

Attach Tooling (A), Tooling (B), and a suitable lifting device to boom (1). The weight of boom (1) is approximately 1678 kg (3700 lb).

Typical Example
Remove bolt (16). Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to pin assembly (15). The combined weight of Tooling (C) and pin assembly (15) is approximately 104 kg (230 lb).
Remove pin assembly (15) and shims (17) .
Remove boom (1) from the machine.
