The conversion of the above engines from the 149-9931 Spark Plug to the 146-2588 Spark Plug has left the supplier with a surplus of the 149-9931 Spark Plug bodies. Due to a shortage of the 146-2588 Spark Plug in the parts system, the surplus 149-9931 Spark Plugs are going to be converted into the 146-2588 Spark Plug configuration. The only difference between these spark plugs is that the 146-2588 Spark Plug is built with a wire wound resistor and the 149-9931 Spark Plug is built with a ceramic resistor. The other items are identical: 3400 glass, masked ground, and .09 inch center electrode diameter.Solution:
To quickly fill the void that has been created in the parts system, The 149-9931 Spark Plugs will be retro-fitted with the wire-wound resistor and stamped "E/C 02" (change level 2) on one of the flats on the hex. A part number change is not possible, because the part number is etched into the ceramic glass then sealed. The 149-9931 Spark Plugs in the parts system that have the ceramic resistor will be removed from inventory, so only the 149-9931 "EC/02" Spark Plugs with the wire wound resistor will be available. The 149-9931 "E/C 02" Spark Plug is identical to the 146-2588 Spark Plug.All orders placed for either the 146-2588 or the 149-9931 Spark Plug will be filled with the 149-9931 "EC/02" Spark Plug until supplies of the 149-9931 "EC/02" Spark Plug are depleted, and the inventory of the 146-2588 Spark Plug can be replenished. These orders will then be filled with the 146-2588 part number.
