Install bearing (17) onto planetary carrier (15).

Attach a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier (15). The weight of planetary carrier (15) is approximately 42 kg (93 lb). Install planetary carrier (15) to brake housing (7).

Install plate (14) and the old bolts (13). Tighten the old bolts (13) in the sequence that is shown on Illustration 15 to pull the planetary carrier into place and to seat the bearings. Remove the old bolts (13) and replace the old bolts with the new bolts (13). Tighten the new bolts (13) to a torque of 200 20 N m (148 15 lb ft). Be sure to tighten bolts (13) in the sequence that is shown on Illustration 15. Tighten bolts (13) again to a torque of 500 50 N m (369 37 lb ft). Tighten bolts (13) in the same sequence as before.

Install brake plate (9) and friction disc (10). Repeat this step for the remaining brake plates (9) and friction discs (10).Note: Note the order of brake plates (9) and friction plates (10). Refer to Illustration 18 for the correct order.

Install end plate (8) into brake housing (7).

Use a suitable straight edge and Tooling (G) to measure the distance from the top of the flange of the brake housing to Surface (U) on planetary carrier (15). Subtract the thickness of the straight edge from the distance that was measured. Record this measurement as Dimension (1).

Raise the temperature of gear (6). Install gear (6) and install retaining ring (5). Repeat this step for the remaining gears (6) and retaining rings (5).

Install sun gear (3) without the shims. Install two bolts to support a suitable rigid straight edge against sun gear (3). Use Tooling (G) to measure the distance from the outside edge of the straight edge to Surface (V). Subtract the thickness of the straight edge from the distance that was measured. Record this measurement as Dimension (2).
Remove sun gear (3).

Subtract Dimension (2) from Dimension (1). Take this result and subtract 1.00 mm (0.039 inch). The result is the required shim (4) thickness.
Install shim (4) into sun gear (3).
