Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the steering system.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in sight of the operator.
Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position.
Engage the parking brake. Put blocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Lower the blade to the ground.

Steering Frame Lock
Install steering frame lock in the LOCKED position. Secure the lock with the pin.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
Move the control lever through the full range of travel. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system.
Place the control lever in the HOLD position.
Depress the brake pedal repeatedly. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the brake hydraulic system.
Rotate the steering wheel in both directions in order to release the pressure in the steering system.

Push the plunger on the breaker relief valve. Ensure that the oil pressure in the hydraulic tank has been released. Slowly turn the filler cap in the counterclockwise direction. Tighten the filler cap.
Make sure that all oil pressure is released before you begin any work on any section of the hydraulic system.
The pressure in the hydraulic system has been released. Lines and components may be removed.
