Fuses - They protect the electrical system from damage caused by overloaded circuirs. Change a fuse if the element separates. If the element of a new fuse separates, have the circuir checked and repaired. To gain access to fuses, open the door on the panel at the front of the operator's compartment. If the element of a new fuse separates, have the circuit checked.Windshield Wiper and Washer
Replace Wiper Blade
Inspect the windshield wiper blade. Replace it if it is worn or damaged, or if streaking occurs, replace it.Fill Reservoir
When operating in freezing temperatures, use caterpillar or any commercially available nonfreezing window washer fluid.

Check Precharge Pressure
Check the accumulator precharge pressure.Consult your Caterpillar dealer for correct testing procedure and the recommended pressure.Clean the Screen
The seat must be in its lowest position (all the way down) and the engine stopped. 1. Loosen the fitting at the rear of the operator's seat and disconnect the line.2. Remove the screen. Wash the screen in clean, nonflammable solvent. Allow it to dry.3. Install the screen and connect the line.Ether Starting Aid Cylinder (If Equipped)
Installing the Cylinder
1. Loosen the cylinder retaining clamp.2. Unscrew and remove the empty ether cylinder.3. Remove the used gasket. Install the new gasket provided with each new cylinder.4. Install the new cylinder. Tighten the cylinder hand tight. Refasten the cylinder clamp securely.Elevator Idler Rollers and Upper Bearing
Check Lubricant Level
1. Stop the elevator with each idler fill plug at the top. Stop the engine. Remove the plugs. One on each side of the machine.2. Maintain the lubricant level to the bottom of the plug openings.Elevator Speed Reducer

Adjust-Replace if Necessary
Measure the slack of each chain from the bottom of the elevator frame to the top of the bottom chain loop. Measure midway between the sprocket and the idler.The distance should be 254 to 356 mm (10 to 14 inches) with not more than 50 mm (2 inches) from one side to the other. Adjust the chain. See, topic "Elevator Chain Adjustment", in the Operating Adjustments section of this manual.Draft Arm Wear Plates
Adjust Clearance
1. Remove the bolts from the draft arm shoes and use Shims 3J3535 as needed between each shoe and each of the draft arms to maintain a clearance of 6 mm (.25 inch).2. Install the draft arm shoes and bolts.Transfer Case Sump Screen

1. Remove the oil sump drain plug. Drain the oil. Clean and install the sump drain plug. 2. Change the transmission oil filter element. Clean the strainer and magnets.
