Tube C2. Using 356 mm (14.0 in) outside diameter, hot finished, seamless steel tube, with 25 mm (1.0 in) wall thickness, fabricate tube (C) to the dimensions in the above illustration. The steel must have 245 MPa (36000 psi) minimum yield strength and with 420 MPa (60500 psi) minimum tensile strength.Drill and tap 1/8 NPT threads in three holes at location (U).
Channel D3. Using 10 mm (0.4 in) thick structural steel, fabricate two channels to the dimensions in the above illustration. The steel must have 355 MPa (51500 psi) minimum yield strength and 490 MPa (71000 psi) minimum tensile strength.
Weld Assembly4. Weld items (A) and (B) to item (C) with a 8 mm (0.3 in) fillet weld at location (1) all around and on both sides. Weld items (D) to the assembly with a 8 mm (0.3 in) fillet weld at location (2) all around. With item A, B, C, and D welded a new front assembly is completed as shown in the illustration above. To ensure that the front and back plates (A and B) remains parallel, weld stiffeners between the plates. Do not weld the two channels (D) to the edge of the back plate relief holes.
Machining Details [Machine surfaces to be N6 and the 315 (12.4) diameters to be concentric].5. Machine the assembly after all welding has been completed as shown in the above illustration.
Stiffener Plate F - 20 mm (0.8 in) thick.
Gusset G - 10 mm (0.4 in) thick.
Arch Plate H and J
Backing Strip K - 5 mm (0.2 in) thick.6. Fabricate two stiffener plates (F), two gussets (G), two arch plate sections (H) and (J) and a backing strip (K) to the dimensions given above. Use structural type steel with 355 MPa (51500 psi) minimum yield strength and 490 MPa (71000 psi) minimum tensile strength.Dimension (Z) on the arch plate sections and backing strip is approximately 185 mm (7.3 in). Establish this dimension accurately by measuring the length of arch plate cut away in Step 17. It is important to ensure a good fit.
Un-reinforced Access Hole
Reinforced Access Hole. L. Reinforcement. M & N. Strengthening Plates7. Inspect the area around the access hole at the front of the frame. If the access hole has not been reinforced continue on with Steps 8, 9 and 10. If the area has been reinforced go to Step 11.
Plate L8. Fabricate two plates (L) to the dimensions given in the illustration above. Use structural type steel with 270 MPa (39000 psi) minimum yield strength and with 430 MPa (63000 psi) minimum tensile strength. The plates can be made in two pieces if necessary.
