CYLINDER HEAD GROUP 4N1710 - Caterpillar

1. Remove the bolts and guard (1) from the bottom of the cab. Put identification on all lines for assembly purposes.2. Disconnect lines (3) from the pump.3. Remove nuts (2). 4. Loosen bolts (4) and remove hand metering pump (5). The following steps are for the installation of the hand metering pump.5. Align the splines of the pump and the shaft. Put the pump in position and fasten with bolts (4).6. Install nuts (2). Connect lines (3).7. Install guard (1).Disassemble Hand Metering Pump
Start By:a. remove hand metering pump 1. Remove bolts (1) and cap (2) from the pump body. Remove the O-ring seal from the cap. 2. Remove gerotor assembly (3) and spacer (4) from the pump body. Remove the O-ring seal from the gerotor assembly. 3. Remove drive (5) and spacer (6) from the pump body. 4. Remove O-ring seal (7) and sleeve (8). 5. Remove pin (11). Remove spool (9) from sleeve (8). Remove six springs (10) from spool (9). 6. Remove bearing races (12) and bearing (13) from the pump body. 7. Turn the pump body over and remove spiral lockring (14). Remove bushing (15). 8. Remove seals (16) from bushing (15). 9. Remove plug (17), seat (19), ball (21) and retainer (22) from the pump body. Remove O-ring seals (18) and (20) from the seat.Assemble Hand Metering Pump
Make sure all of the parts are clean and free of dirt and contaminants. Put clean SAE 10 oil on all parts at assembly. 1. Install O-rings (18) and (20) on seat (19). Install retainer (22), ball (21), seat (19) and plug (17) in the pump body. Make sure the plug is even with or below the pump body surface after it is installed. 2. Install seals (16) in bushing (15). 3. Install the O-ring seal in the pump body. Put bushing (15) in the pump body and install spiral lockring (14) that holds the bushing. 4. Turn the pump body over and install bearing races (12) and bearing (13). 5. Install six springs (10) in spool (9), with three springs on each side. Make sure the curves of the springs are in contact and in the center of the spool. The notched side of the spring ends must be toward the sleeve.6. Install sleeve (8) over spool (9) so that the notch (slot) in the sleeve engages with the ends of springs (10). Install pin (11) in the sleeve and spool. 7. Install O-ring (7) and sleeve assembly (8) in the pump body. 8. Install spacer (6) and drive (5) in the pump body. Make sure the notch (slot) in the drive is engaged with pin (11) that holds the sleeve and spool together. 9. Install the O-ring seal on the gerotor assembly. Install gerotor assembly (3) and spacer (4). 10. Make sure the gear of gerotor assembly (3) is in alignment with pin (11), as shown. The bolts that hold the cap and gerotor assembly to the pump body must be clean and dry when
