Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Note: Band clamps (7) are one-time use parts. Discard the clamp assemblies if the clamps are loosened.
If needed, remove clamp assemblies (7) and separate the housings from the cartridge assembly.Installation Procedure
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Install the turbocharger (2) in the reverse order.
Illustration 3 g02027713
Note: Excessive loosening of the clamp assemblies will damage the turbocharger wheel.
In order to rotate either of the turbocharger compressor housings, loosen clamp assemblies (7) . Loosen the clamp assemblies enough to rotate the housings. Position the center bearing housing with the oil supply and the drain in the vertical position. Tighten clamp assemblies (7) to a torque of 13.6 1.2 N m (120 11 lb in). Tap the clamp assemblies lightly in four places around each clamp assembly. Tighten the clamp assemblies again to a torque of 13.6 1.2 N m (120 11 lb in).Note: Discard the nuts after use. Use new nuts for installation.
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of nuts (5) prior to installation.
Tighten nuts (5) to a torque of 54 5 N m (40 4 lb ft).
Apply clean engine oil in the oil inlet of the turbocharger after assembly or before installation.
