Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install". Note: It is not necessary to remove the crankshaft pulley or the alternator in order to remove the front cover. The crankshaft pulley, and the alternator have been removed for illustration purposes.

Remove bolts (3) and bolts (4). Remove bolt (5) from front cover (1).
Remove front cover (1) from the front housing.
Remove gasket (2) from front cover (1) and the front housing. Installation Procedure

Clean all surfaces of the front housing and clean the front cover thoroughly. Note: Do Not use sealant on the gasket for the front cover.

Position gasket (2) on front cover (1). Note: The gasket is located by three locating dowels at Location (X) on front cover (1).
Install Tooling (A) in the front housing at Location (Z).
Position front cover (1) and gasket (2) on the front housing. Install bolts (3) in Location (Y). Install bolts (4) and bolt (5). Tighten bolts (3), (4), and (5) to a torque of 22 N m (16 lb ft). End By:
Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump - Remove and Install".
