Remove the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft - Remove and Install".
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Do not disconnect the air lines until the air pressure in the system is at zero. If hose is disconnected under pressure it can cause personal injury.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned in order to prevent contamination.Note: Install caps and plugs on all openings in order to prevent system contamination. For ease of identification, mark all hose assemblies, tube assemblies, wire harnesses, and cables.
Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the power train system is 47 L (12 US gal).

Release the air pressure from the air tank.
Disconnect hose assembly (2) from the parking brake housing.
Remove bolt (3).
Remove yoke (4) and the O-ring seal from the transmission shaft.
Remove yoke (1) from the differential.
Remove ten bolts (5) from parking brake housing (6). Leave one bolt at the top and one bolt at the bottom of parking brake housing (6) in order to support the parking brake housing.

Attach Tooling (A) to parking brake housing (6).
Remove remaining bolts (5) from parking brake housing (6). Remove parking brake housing (6) from the transmission. The weight of parking brake housing (6) is approximately 34 kg (75 lb). Note: Some plates and discs may come off with the housing.

Remove plates (7) and discs (8).
Remove dowels (9).
Remove hub (10).
