Later Pump3. Remove bolts (1) and pointer (3). Remove water pump (2) from the timing gear cover. The following steps are for installation of the water pump.4. Put the gasket and water pump (2) in position in the timing gear cover.5. Install pointer (3) and bolts (4).6. Put the vee belts in position on the engine.7. Use a belt tension gauge such as Borroughs Tool Company Part No. BT-33-72C or an equivalent and make an adjustment of the vee belts. Tighten new belts until the gauge indication is 120 5. Operate the engine at high idle for a minimum of 30 minutes after Step 8. Make another adjustment of the belt tension. The correct gauge indication for used belts is 90 10. Tighten the bolts that hold the alternator and raw water pump in position.8. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level.Disassemble Water Pump (Earlier)
Start By:a. remove water pump Make a replacement of the shaft assembly, seal assembly, cup and seat with new parts when the water pump is assembled. 1. Use tooling (A) to remove pulley (1) from the shaft assembly.
The press must have a guard. The guard has been removed for photo illustration.
2. Use tool (B) and a press to remove the shaft assembly from the impeller and housing as shown.3. Use a hammer and punch to remove the seal assembly from the housing.4. Remove the seat and cup from the impeller.Assemble Water Pump (Earlier)
1. Use a press and tool (C) to install shaft assembly (2) in the housing as shown. 2. Use a press and tool (D) to install seal assembly (3) in the housing as shown. 3. Use a press and tool (E) to install pulley (1) on the shaft assembly as shown. 4. Put the cup and seat in position in impeller (4) and use tool (F) to install them by hand. Tools (G) and (H) have been replaced by an 8T0457 Installer.5. Put impeller (4) on the shaft assembly and use a press and tooling (E), (G) and (H) as shown to push the impeller on to the shaft assembly until tool (G) can just be moved between the housing and impeller. If the 8T0457 Installer is used, the impeller is pressed on until the installer makes contact with the housing.End By:a. install water pumpDisassemble Water Pump (Later)
