Hydraulic System
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Use a manual pressure gauge, Advisor, or Cat Electrical Technician (ET) to verify that all pressure has been released form the system prior to servicing.Hoist
To relieve the pressure from the hoist circuit, lower the truck body completely and move the hoist control to the FLOAT position.Brake
To automatically purge and verify that the hydraulic pressure has been released from the accumulators, perform the following:
Turning the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position will remove power to the Electrical Control Modules and abort the accumulator purge process. Serious injury, or death, can occur if the system pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.Note: Do not use battery disconnect switch prior to validating that the accumulators are purged. Turning the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position will remove power to the Electronic Control Modules and abort the accumulator purge process
Wait 2 minutes.
Turn the engine start switch to the ON position.Note: Do not start or crank the engine.
Use Advisor, Electronic Technician (ET), or a manual pressure gauge to verify that all pressure has been purged from the accumulators.
If accumulator pressure is still present, Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure Release (Park Brake Accumulator) and (Service Brake Accumulator)" for more information.Park Brake Accumulator
Pressurized System!Hydraulic accumulators contain gas and oil under high pressure. DO NOT disconnect lines or disassemble any component of a pressurized accumulator. All gas pre-charge must be removed from the accumulator as instructed by the service manual before servicing or disposing of the accumulator or any accumulator component.Failure to follow the instructions and warnings could result in personal injury or death.Only use dry nitrogen gas to recharge accumulators. See your Cat dealer for special equipment and detailed information for accumulator service and charging.
Note: The park brake pressure accumulator purge procedure must be done prior to the service brake accumulator purge procedure. This will assure that the service brakes will be still available to hold the truck, if needed.Relieving the pressure in the brake circuit will not release the nitrogen pre-charge pressure in the brake accumulators. To release the pressure in the park brake circuit:
Park the machine on a level surface and install wheel chocks. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Use of Wheel Chocks" for more information on wheel chocks. If it is not possible to use wheel chocks, place the wheels in a suitable ditch. Parking on a grade is not acceptable.
