Use this procedure to troubleshoot an engine overspeed or use this procedure if the following event code is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Codes" for information about event codes. For information on the engine monitoring system, refer to Troubleshooting, "Engine Monitoring System".Note: Some of the following codes may not be applicable for certain applications.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Proper Operation of the Turbocharger
A. Check for proper operation of the turbocharger.
B. Check for any oil that may be leaking into the air inlet.
Turbocharger
Result: The turbocharger is leaking oil into the inlet.
Repair or replace the turbocharger.
Result: The turbocharger is not leaking oil into the inlet.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
3. Intake Air
A. Check for combustible gases in the surrounding atmosphere.
B. Check for proper operation of starting aids (if equipped).
Air quality
Result: The atmosphere has combustible gases.
Do not operate the engine in an environment with combustible gases.
Complete the procedure in the order in which the steps are listed.The procedure corrected the issue. Return the engine to service.The procedure did not correct the issue.Contact your Cat dealer Technical Communicator (TC).
