Remove & Install Auxiliary Pump (Sea Water)
At operating temperature, the engine cooling system is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap on the expansion tank is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. 1. Disconnect hose (2). Cap and plug immediately.2. Loosen clamp (3).3. Attach a strap and a suitable lifting device to auxiliary pump (sea water) (6).4. Remove two bolts (4) and washers.5. Remove three bolts (1) and washers.6. Remove auxiliary pump (sea water) (6). The weight of the auxiliary pump (sea water) is 16 kg (35 lb).7. Check gasket (5) for damage or wear and replace if necessary. For installation of the auxiliary pump (sea water), reverse the removal steps.8. Fill the cooling system to the correct level. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct filling procedure.Disassemble & Assemble Auxiliary Pump (Sea Water)
Start By:a. remove auxiliary pump (Sea Water) 1. Remove five bolts (1) and cover (2). 2. Remove O-ring seal (3) from impeller cam liner (4). 3. Install two bolts (1) finger tight to prevent impeller cam liner from moving. Use two pliers to remove impeller (5) from impeller cam liner (4).4. Remove two bolts (1) and impeller cam liner (4). 5. Remove O-ring seals (7) and (8).6. Remove two wear plates (12).7. Use Tool (A) to remove snap ring (9) from shaft (10). Remove washer (11).8. Remove seal assembly (6). Steel washer (11) will not be reused for new seal assembly (6). Washer (11) is replaced with a brass washer. Snap ring (9) will be reused. 9. Remove three bolts (14) and separate housing (13) from body (15). If bolts (14) prove difficult to remove, their removal may be assisted by mildly heating housing (13) in the area of bolts (14). The bolts are secured with a thread locking compound and the heat will break the bond. Care should be taken not to overheat the housing. 10. Use Tool (B) and remove seal (16) (not shown) from housing (13). 11. Remove seal (17) from shaft (10). 12. Use Tool (C) and remove retaining ring (18). Remove shaft (10) with bearings from body (15).
Use Tool (B) to drive seal (16) (not shown) and seal (17) from body (15). 13. Install Tool (D) and press drive bearing (18) from shaft (10). 14. Use Tool (A) and remove snap ring (19) and spacer (20) from shaft (10). 15. Press drive bearing (21) from shaft (10). Assemble the auxiliary pump (Sea Water) in the reverse order of disassembly.End By:a. install auxiliary pump (Sea Water)
