Measuring Resistance Of The Coil(1) Coil.(2) Multimeter.3. Connect one of the leads of multimeter (2) to each terminal on coil (1).4. Measure the resistance across the two terminals. Resistance should be 12 3 ohms.5. If the resistance reading is not correct, replacement of the coil is necessary.6. After tests and or repairs are completed, remove multimeter leads from the coil.7. To prevent personnel injury or death from accidental movement of the machine during tests and adjustments. One person must be at the controls while one person performs the tests and adjustments.
Check brake disc wear before adjusting brakes.
Typical Disc Thickness Measurement(1) Friction disc.(2) Fixed disc.(3) Oil level and fill hole.(4) Differential housing.(A) Disc thickness.1. Apply the parking brake.2. Remove differential oil level and fill plug from differential housing (4).3. Arrange the blades of the 1U7234 feeler gauge to a thickness of 4.5 mm (.177 in). Insert the gauge into oil level and fill hole (3). There are five friction discs (1) and five fixed discs (2) per axle. Attempt to fit the gauge between two fixed discs. Minimum disc thickness (A) is 4.5 mm (.177 in). The friction discs must be replaced if the gauge does not fit between two fixed discs. The thickness of the friction discs is acceptable if the gauge slips between two fixed discs.4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other axle. Clean and install oil level and fill plugs. After replacing worn discs, or if discs are acceptable, proceed to the next step for brake adjustment.
Right Parking and Service Brake Location(5) Pinion.(6) Axle housing.5. Block all wheels.6. Start the run the engine. Have an assistant move the Parking Brake switch to OFF and release both service brake pedals.7. Locate brake adjustment pinion (5) on axle housing (6).
Brake Adjustment Pinion Location(5) Pinion.(7) Clip.(8) Bolt.8. Remove bolt (8) and clip (7).9. Turn pinion (5) counterclockwise with a torque of 8 N m (6 lb ft) until it stops. Turn pinion (5) three complete revolutions clockwise to set the brake disc gap.10. Hold pinion (5) to prevent from turning. Install clip (7) and bolt (8). Tighten bolt (8).11. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for the other axle.12. Stop the engine and apply the parking brake.13. Remove all wheel blocks.Parking Brake Release (For Towing)
The parking brake can be manually released using bolt (1). One end of bolt (1) (internally) contacts the bottom ear of the brake lever. The square head end of the bolt is threaded through the axle housing just below the adjustment pinion. Bolt (1) is secured at the housing by a jam nut.Bolt (1) screws into the axle housing against the lever. The lever pushes against the parking brake pistons which overcome the cup springs.
