CYLINDER GP-STICK 8J8611 - Caterpillar

1. Lift the rear of the scraper, and install tooling (A) under the frame as shown. 2. Remove cap (1) from the wheel, and drain the oil for the wheel bearings. 3. Fasten a hoist to the wheel as shown. Remove retainer (2) from the axle housing. If necessary, loosen the slack adjuster to remove the wheel.4. Remove bearing cone (3) and the wheel from the axle housing. Weight of the wheel with a 33.25 x 35 tire is approximately 1485 kg (3300 lb.). 5. Remove Duo-Cone seal (6) from retainer (4) and the inside of the wheel.6. Remove bearing cone (5), the spacer and retainer (4) from the axle housing. 7. Fasten a hoist to tooling (B), and install the tooling on the inside bearing cup as shown.8. Use tooling (B) to remove inside bearing cup (7) and the outside bearing cup from the wheel.Install Wheels, Bearings And Seals
1. Be sure the O-ring seal is in place inside retainer (1). Put clean oil on the O-ring seal.2. Install retainer (1) on the axle housing with pins (2) in alignment with the holes in the axle housing. The rubber seals and all surfaces that make contact with the seals must be clean and dry. After installation of the seals, put oil on the contact surfaces of the metal seals.3. Use tool (B) to install the Duo-Cone seals in the retainer and wheel. See Installation Of Duo-Cone Floating Seals. 4. Install spacer (3) with the chamfer in. Install bearing cone (4) on the axle housing. 5. Lower the temperature of bearing cups for the wheel. Install outer bearing cup (5) and inner bearing cup (6) in the wheel.6. Fasten a hoist, and put the wheel in position on the axle housing. 7. Install bearing cone (7). 8. Put retainer (8) in position on the axle housing without shims and an O-ring seal. Install every other bolt (9) in the retainer.9. Turn the wheel, and at the same time tighten bolts (9) in number sequence to 38 N m (25 lb.ft.). Tighten each bolt one time only. While the wheel is turned, tighten the bolts in number sequence to 70 N m (50 lb.ft.). See Specifications for exact bolt tightening sequence.10. Use tool (C) to measure the distance from retainer (8) to the axle housing through the two threaded holes. Remove retainer (8).11. Use an outside micrometer to measure the thickness of the retainer at the two threaded holes.12. Find the difference between the two average measurements. This difference is the distance between the end of the axle housing and the retainer. 13. Install shims on the retainer with a thickness the same as the distance found in Step 12 plus 0.25 mm (.010 in.). 14. Install two 5/8"-11 NC guide pins (10) in the axle housing.15. Install O-ring seal (11) on the retainer, and put clean oil on the O-ring seal.16. Install the retainer with shims and the O-ring seal on the axle housing.17. Install the bolts that
