Introduction
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.ThisSpecial Instruction contains requirements for installation of the gas shutoff valve on the engines that are listed above. The following conditions can cause the gas shutoff valve to fail:
Valves are installed backward.
Stress is placed on the soldered wire connections when the electrical connector is rotated. This could cause a short circuit or an open circuit in the valve's coil.
Incorrect orientation of the valve will allow moisture into the coil, which causes corrosion.Required Parts

(1) Directional arrowOrient the directional arrow that is located on the valve housing in the same direction as the flow of gas. Refer to Illustration 1.
Illustration 2 g01835255
The valve must be installed with cap (2) in the upright position in order to help prevent moisture from entering the valve. Refer to Illustration 2.The electrical connector can be rotated in order to accommodate the routing of the wiring harness. Use the following procedure in order to rotate the connector assembly without damaging the electrical connections.
Illustration 3 g01831613
(2) Cap (3) Connector assembly
Loosen cap (2) that secures connector assembly (3). The cap must be loosened so that the connector assembly can be rotated freely. Refer to Illustration 3.
Rotate the connector assembly to the desired position. Torque the cap to 15.3 1.7 N m (11.2 1.3 lb ft).If no adjustment of the cap is necessary, verify the torque of the cap. Tighten the cap to a torque of 15.3 1.7 N m (11.2 1.3 lb ft).
