Introduction
The 424-2293 C9.3 Tool Group is used to remove the C9.3 injector sleeve as well as compress the valve springs for removal and installation. Care should be taken to assure the piston is at or close to TDC when compressing and removing valve spring retainers.Injector sleeve removal requires the use of a slide hammer with a 3/8 - 16 thread (such as 6V2166).Additional Contact Information

Extracting the C9.3 Injector Sleeve
Insert the injector plug into the injector bore to remove the sleeve.

Set the 364-0745 Plate over the injector plug and install the injector hold down clamp bolt to keep the plug from rotating in the bore.

Use the supplied 370-8733 Tap to tap through the 2 holes in the injector plug to create a partial thread on the injector sleeve. There is an etched mark (1) on the tap to show how far to tap the threads. Going beyond that mark could cause the tap to break.

Once the holes are tapped, install 2 - M6 bolts in the injector plug.

Remove the bolt and plate that held the plug in place.
Use a slide hammer installed in the center hole of the plug to drive out the old injector sleeve. The O-ring at the bottom of the plug will keep metal shavings from falling into the cylinder.Compressing the C9.3 Valve Springs

Set the 364-0745 Plate over the injector plug and install the injector hold down clamp bolt to constrain the plug in the bore. Variations in machining on the engine head may require the use of a shim (standard washer) between the clamp and the cylinder head to keep the plate parallel over the injector plug.

Install the supplied 424-2289 Threaded Rod into the center bore of the injector plug.
Install the 371-1603 Plate and the supplied thrust washer assembly and 3/8-16 nut. Orient the plate as necessary to miss various casting features on the head that would limit compression of the valve springs.

Compress the valve springs to install/remove the retainer keys.
Loosen the nut to relieve the valve springs, taking care to keep the threaded rod from turning, so that it remains in the injector until there is no more load on the springs. There are flats machined on the threaded rod for a wrench to constrain its movement while unloading the springs.
It is important to maintain adequate thread engagement when removing and reinstalling the valve springs. Install the threaded rod at least 8 full turns and be sure that it does not unscrew with the nut when unloading (expanding) the valve springs.
