A 352-5891 Strap 2
B 4C-5598 Anti-Seize Compound 1 Start By:
Connect the engine to Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) before the DPF is removed from the engine. Once the engine is connected to Cat ET, then perform an ash service test. This test is a manual regeneration. Allow the DPF to cool before proceeding.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
Illustration 1 g02302435
Put identification marks on both sides of clamp assemblies (1) and for installation purposes. Put an identification mark on the diesel particulate filter (3) that shows the direction of exhaust gas flow for installation purposes.
Disconnect the cable assembly that connects to soot antennae (4) and disconnect tube assembly (5).
Loosen clamp assemblies (1). Reposition clamp assemblies (1) toward the center of the diesel particulate filter (3) and remove outlet assembly (6).
Illustration 2 g02303374
Position lifting straps (A) onto diesel particulate filter (3). Disconnect clamp assembly (2) and remove the diesel particulate filter. The weight of diesel particulate filter (3) is approximately 23 kg (51 lb). Installation Procedure
Install diesel particulate filter (3) in the reverse order.
Install new clamp assemblies (1). Torque the new clamp assemblies (1) to a torque of 50 1 N m (37 1 lb ft). Do not use power tools in order to tighten clamp assemblies (1).
Illustration 3 g02303555
Typical Example
Note: Ensure that clamp assembly (2) is centered in the cradle pin joint. Aligned the clamp assembly uniformly over the diesel particulate filter prior to the tightening of the clamp assembly.
Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of clamp assembly (2) for a Distance (X). Distance (X) is 25 mm (1 inch) above the trunnion. Use hand tools in order to tighten clamp assembly (2). Tighten clamp assembly (2) to a torque of 16.5 1.5 N m (146 13 lb in).
Connect the cable assembly (not shown) that connects to soot antennae (4) and hand tighten the cable assembly. End By:
Reset the Engine Ash Model. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS5026.
