Connections of the Electronic Implement ControlsThis diagnostic code is recorded when the Machine ECM determines that the voltage for the address is too high. The signal wire connects to connector contact J2-13 (wire N964-BU) of the ECM.The possible causes for this diagnostic code are listed:
The signal circuit is shorted to the +battery.
The signal circuit is open.
The ground circuit is open.
An Electronic Implement Control has failed. This is unlikely.
The Machine ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 2225 FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.Use a digital multimeter for the measurements in the procedure.Note: Check the configuration of your machine for the number of implement electronic control modules. The following table lists some of the configurations that are available:
Table 1
Machines with one Electronic Implement Control
Electronic Implement Control 2     Fourth Valve, Ripper, or Winch
Table 2
Machines with two Electronic Implement Controls
Electronic Implement Control 2     Fourth Valve or Ripper    Test Step 1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE ELECTRONIC IMPLEMENT CONTROL 2.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the Electronic Implement Control 2.
At the machine harness connector for the Electronic Implement Control 2, measure the voltage between contact 5 (wire 709-OR) and contact 4 (wire 202-BK).Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10.0 0.4 DCV.Results:
YES - The voltage measurement is 10.0 0.4 DCV. The voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The voltage measurement is greater than 10.0 0.4 DCV. The measurement is not correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY AT THE MACHINE ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At ECM connector J1, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool to remove the supply wire and the socket. Remove the wires at contact J1-69 (wire 709-OR) and contact J1-57 (wire 202-BK) from the connector. The machine harness connector J1 remains connected to the ECM.
Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the ON position.
Use the multimeter probes in order to make contact on the connector pins at the ECM. Measure the voltage at the ECM pins between contact J1-69 and contact J1-70.Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10.0 0.4 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 10.0 0.4 DCV. The voltage is correct. The ECM power supply is correct. Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position. Install the wires and sockets that were removed from the J1 connector back into the original locations. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 10.0 0.4 DCV. The ECM power supply is not correct.Repair: Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If
