Troubleshooting
PROBLEM 1: No water flow from one or both spray bars. PROBABLE CAUSE:This could be caused by an empty or contaminated water tank, damage to the water valve(s), or a broken or plugged water line.1. Clean and flush the inside of the water tank.2. Make sure the water tank is filled with clean water.3. Handles on water valves could be broken.4. Check for internal damage to the water valves.5. Check water lines and connections for damage or clogging. Blow lines out with clean compressed air, if necessary.6. Check the drilled holes in spray bars for contamination. Clean the holes with a piece of soft wire, if clogged. PROBLEM 2: Some tires receive insufficient water flow. PROBABLE CAUSE:Inconsistent water flow could be caused by a low water level in the tank, clogged holes in the spray bars, or contamination in the water tank.1. Clean and flush the inside of the water tank.2. Make sure the water tank is filled with clean water.3. Clean out the drilled holes in the front and rear spray bars. PROBLEM 3: Tires picking up asphalt. PROBABLE CAUSE:Tires may collect asphalt if water flow is insufficient, or if tire scrapers are worn out or damaged.1. Check the probable causes for Problem 1 and Problem 2. These could cause reduced water flow, allowing the tires to pick up asphalt.2. Make sure the front and rear tire scrapers are in the operating position.3. Check for missing, broken, or worn scraper blades or coco mats. Replace any damaged parts. PROBLEM 4: Water flows from spray bar when water valve is closed. PROBABLE CAUSE:This problem is most likely caused by damage to the water valve(s).1. Handles on water valves could be broken.2. Contamination or internal damage to the water valves could prevent them from closing completely.Operation Checks
Reference: Be sure to follow correct safety practices when performing procedures covered in this module. See Safety Page, Form No. SENR7733.1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface. Shut engine off and apply the parking brake.2. Set the front and rear tire scrapers in the operating position.3. Turn both water valve handles to the Open position.4. Examine the front and rear tires of the machine. All tires should receive a consistent flow of water from the spray bars.5. Turn both water valve handles to the Closed position. All water flow should stop.6. Check the scraper arm for each front and rear tire. Spring force should hold each scraper blade (or coco mat) against the tire.7. Check each scraper blade (or coco mat) for damage.8. If the system does not operate correctly, repair or replace damaged components. Refer to Troubleshooting to identify probable causes of a problem.
