Remove four twelve point head bolts (5) that secure spider and bearing assembly (6) to drive shaft (3). Discard the twelve point head bolts. Remove spider and bearing assembly (6) from drive shaft (3).

Remove two bolts (10) , the hard washers and the grommets in order to remove guard assembly (8) from sensor housing (11).
Remove the lockwire from the electrical connection of wire harness (9).
Remove bolt (7), the washer and the clip from the transfer case assembly.
Use Tool (A) (not shown) to disconnect wire harness (9) from the speed sensor.

Disconnect two hose assemblies (12) and (13) from the transmission.

Disconnect wire harness (14) at the three electrical connections.
Remove bolt (15) and the clip. Position wire harness (14) out of the way.

Disconnect two hose assemblies (16) and (17) from transmission (18).

Disconnect two hose assemblies (19) and (20) from transmission (18). Remove two clips (21).

Remove the lockwire from the electrical connection of wire harness (22).
Use Tool (A) (not shown) to disconnect wire harness (22) at the electrical connection.

Disconnect hose assembly (24) from magnetic screen (23).

Disconnect two hose assemblies (25) and (27) from differential carrier assembly (26).

Remove two bolts (28), the hard washers, cover (29), shims (30), pin (32) and seal (31) from the axle housing assembly.

Attach a suitable lifting device to transmission (18), as shown. Secure the lifting device to a hoist. Note: Attach Tool (B) (not shown) to the rear mount of transmission (18) in order to remove the transfer gears, transmission (18) and differential carrier assembly (26). The front of transmission (18) must be raised at an angle in order to remove differential carrier assembly (26) from the axle housing assembly.
Remove 26 full nuts (33), the washers and the spacers that secure differential carrier assembly (26) to the axle housing assembly.
Remove differential carrier assembly (26), transmission (18), the transfer gears and the O-ring seal from the axle housing assembly. The weight of the transfer gears, transmission (18) and differential carrier assembly (26) is 3090 kg (6810 lb).

Position transmission (18) on a suitable stand. Attach Tool (C) and a suitable lifting sling around differential carrier assembly (26), as shown. Attach a suitable lifting device to Tool (C). Secure the suitable lifting device and the suitable lifting sling to a hoist.
Remove 24 full nuts (35) and the washers that secure differential carrier assembly (26) to transmission (18).
Remove differential carrier assembly (26), differential and bevel gear (34) and the O-ring seal from transmission (18). The weight of differential carrier assembly (26) and differential and bevel gear (34) as a unit is 1185 kg (2610 lb). Note: Attach Tool (B) (not shown) and a suitable lifting sling to differential ring gear (34), as shown. This will ensure that differential ring gear (34) can be removed in the proper position.
