Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the brake system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

This test procedure is intended to determine the maximum and the minimum hydraulic fan speed.This procedure includes the following tests and the following adjustment procedures:

Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position.
Engage the parking brake. Lower the work tools to the ground. Stop the engine and put chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels.
Inspect the hoses for the fan drive for damage. Inspect all of the connectors for the fan drive for damage. Inspect all of the components for the fan drive for damage.

Note: Each fan comes with a factory installed piece of reflective tape on one of the fan blades. Apply a new piece of tape if a new piece of tape is required.
Remove grill assembly (1) .
Attach reflective tape onto the fan.
Install the grill assembly (1) .
Install the 9U-7400 Multitach Tool Gp Tool Group (D) on the grill assembly (1) . Test Procedure for Minimum Fan Speed
Start the engine and run the engine at high idle. Use the throttle lock in order to maintain high idle.Note: To ensure the proper operation of the cooling system, the doors for the engine enclosure should be closed while the test procedures are conducted.
Engage the parking brake.
Allow the brake accumulators to charge.
Measure the fan speed before the engine reaches normal
