Assemble Hydraulic Track Adjusters
On the pages listed above for SENR5458, SENR5454, SENR9257, SENR6159, and SENR1647, the steps are revised for the procedure to assemble hydraulic track adjusters. Make the following corrections to the listed modules.
7. Make sure all parts of the hydraulic track adjuster are clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Check the condition of O-ring seals (3) and (5), backup rings (2), (6), and (7), and lip seal (8). If any of the components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 8. Fill the seal groove in cylinder (4) with 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease. Install O-ring seal (3) and back up ring (2) in the seal groove. Do not interchange the position of the back-up ring and O-ring seal.9. Put a minimum of 60 cc (4.0 cu in) of 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease in the flat bottom surface of the cylinder bore and to the shaft side of the head of rod (1). Apply a thin coat of grease to the rod shaft from the head to the first diameter reduction. Center the rod and install it in cylinder (4).10. Install fill valve (10) and relief valve (11) in the piston assembly (9). Tighten fill valve (10). Do not tighten relief valve (11).11. Install lip seal (8) on piston assembly (9). Make sure the seal is installed with the lip facing the piston assembly head.
In order to ensure correct operation of the hydraulic track adjuster, O-ring seals (5), rings (6) and rings (7) must be installed in the correct positions in the grooves in piston assembly (9). Install rings and seals in the positions shown in Illustration E64860. Do not interchange the position of the back-up rings and O-ring seals.
To distinguish the difference between rings (6) and (7), check their color. Rings (6) are brown in color. Rings (7) are black in color.12. Completely fill the piston seal grooves with 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease in order to allow the grease to flow out when the seals are installed.13. Install O-ring seals (5) rings (6) and rings (7) on piston assembly (9) as shown in Illustration E64860. Turn rings (6) and (7) in the grooves until the split in the rings are 180 degrees apart.14. Make sure the inside diameter of cylinder (4) is clean and free of dirt and debris prior to assembly. Apply 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease to the inside diameter of the cylinder.15. Fill the bottom cavity of the cylinder all around the rod head at the outside of the cylinder wall with 30 cc (2.0 cu in) of 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease. This will prevent air from getting in the cylinder during installation of the piston assembly.16. Put a small amount of 5P-0960 Multipurpose Grease on the
