Check the ECM power supply fuse. The ECM fuse wire is 133-RD.Expected Result:The fuse has not failed.Results:
OK - The fuse is in good working condition. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The fuse has failed.Repair: Replace the fuse.Monitor the machine for a recurrence of the problem. If the problem persists, the reason for the problem must be corrected.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE ECM POWER WIRE
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Measure the resistance of Implement ECM power wire 133-RD at the fuse and contact J1-31 of the Implement ECM connector. Measure the resistance of Implement ECM power wire 133-RD at the fuse and contact J1-46 of the Implement ECM connectorExpected Result:The resistances are less than 5ohms.Results:
OK - The resistances are less than 5ohms. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - One or both resistances are above 5ohms. The circuit is open.Repair: Repair or replace the harness. STOPTest Step 4. CHECK THE ECM GROUND CONNECTIONS
The keyswitch and the disconnect switch remain off.
Measure the resistance between contact J1-23 at the Implement ECM connector and frame ground. Measure the resistance between contact J1-57 at the Implement ECM connector and frame ground.Expected Result:The resistances are less than 5ohms.Results:
OK - The resistances are less than 5ohms. The ECM may have failed, however, ECM failure is unlikely. Repair: Perform this procedure again. If the problem remains, contact your Cat DSN (Dealer Solutions Network). If ECM replacement is necessary, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NOT OK - One or both resistances are above 5ohms. The wire harness has failed.Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOP
