Tooling Required For Installation
* Drill* Voltmeter* Detail Saw* Tie Wraps* File* Diagonal Pliers* Medium Flathead Screwdriver* Needle Nose Pliers* Data Link Connector (same type as in vehicle, if available)Additional Components Required
Two 6 mm (.25 in) bolts, flat washers, lockwashers, and nuts or tape for mounting dash bracket to dash.Installation Procedure
1. Determine and mark the location for the display. a. When determining the location for the Cat ID, select one with good visibility. Make sure the location will not interfere with visibility necessary for truck operation.b. The display is approximately 114 mm (4.5 in) wide, up to 76 mm (3.0 in) high (with mounting bracket) and 89 mm (3.5 in) deep. The location of the display must be within reach of the wiring harness.2. Disconnect the vehicle's batteries.3. Locate all the wiring connections. The display requires the minimum of a fused key-switched (+)Battery, (-)Battery, ATA Data Link(+), and ATA Data Link(-) for proper operation. A fifth connection is optional to provide automatic dimming using the vehicle dash panel lights. The display requires less than 0.3 amps from the power lines. a. The key-switched (+)Battery and (-)Battery should be available in the cab fuse panel.
The dash diagnostic data link has (+)Battery and (-)Battery connections available, but the (+)Battery may be unswitched. Connect the display to key switched battery.
b. The ATA Data Link(+) and ATA Data Link(-) are located behind the dash diagnostic data link or, preferably, a two-pin connector is available (already supplied by the vehicle manufacturer). Do not confuse the ATA Data Link lines with the SAE J1922 Data Link lines.c. The dash dimmer light connection should be accessible from behind the dash. The vehicle dimmer circuit must be a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) type circuit. Contact the vehicle manufacturer to determine the type of dimmer circuit, and if any of the necessary connections have an easy access point.4. Connect the key-switched (+)Battery and (-)Battery. Crimp a terminal or wire splice from the display (+)Battery (red wire) to the vehicle key-switched (+)Battery, and from the display (-)Battery (black wire) to the vehicle (-)Battery.5. Reconnect vehicle batteries, check for proper voltage and display operation. a. After reconnecting the vehicle batteries use a voltmeter and measure the voltage between the key-switched (+)Battery (pin 3, red wire) and (-)Battery (pin 4, black wire) with the key switch ON. The voltage should be 11 to 13.5 volts DC if properly connected.b. Turn the key OFF and measure the voltage again. It should be zero (0) volts with the key in the OFF position.
Displays with part numbers 114-3475, 123-8981, and 128-0941 are 12 volt systems. Do not use 24 volts to power these units - this will damage the display unit. All other part numbers are 12 and 24 volt compatible. The part number of the unit is attached on a label to each display.
6. Connect the data link lines. The data link(+) line and data link(-) line must be connected to the correct lines or the display will not work.a. Temporarily connect the
