System Operation Description:Use this procedure to troubleshoot suspect problems with the status wiring from the EPG circuit breaker to the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM).Use this procedure if the following diagnostic code is activated.
Table 1
Diagnostic Code Table
Description Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
1167-2 EPG Circuit Breaker : erratic, intermittent, or incorrect The engine speed is less than 1000 rpm, the engine load is less than 30 percent, and the "EPG Circuit Breaker Input Status" is "Closed".
Or
The engine speed is more than 1000 rpm, the engine load is more than 30 percent, and the "EPG Circuit Breaker Input Status" is "Open". The alarm output is activated.
The code is logged. The control system monitors the generator main circuit breaker status. The status is monitored in order to determine whether the engine speed and the generator output are compatible with the status.
Illustration 1 g03162957
For the actual wiring, refer to the engine and generator electrical schematics.
Test Step 1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and Wiring
Remove the electrical power from the engine. Note: For the following steps, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect".
Thoroughly inspect the following components:
J1/P1 connectors
J6/P6 connectors
The wiring and the connections between the ECM and the EPG circuit breakerNote: The customer wiring may not be routed through the J6/P6 customer connector. The wiring might be routed directly to J1-11.
Check the torque of the allen head screw for the ECM connectors.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires that are associated with the circuit for the power sensor.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points between the ECM and the EPG circuit breaker. Expected Result:All connectors, pins, and sockets are connected properly. The connectors and the wiring do not have corrosion, abrasion, or pinch points. Results:
OK - The components are in good condition with proper connections. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - The components are not in good condition and/or at least one connection is improper.Repair: Repair the components and/or replace parts, if necessary.STOPTest Step 2. Check the EPG Breaker Status Wiring for an Open or Short Circuit
Disconnect the P1 connector.
Check the wire from P1-11 to the EPG circuit breaker for an open or short circuit. Expected Result:The wire from P1-11 to the EPG circuit breaker has an open or short circuit. Results:
Yes - The wire from P1-11 to the EPG circuit breaker has an open or short circuit.Repair: Repair the wire or replace the wire. Verify that the problem is resolved.STOP
No - The wire from P1-11 to the EPG circuit breaker does not have an open or short circuit. The wire for the EPG circuit breaker status is OK.Repair: There is likely a problem with the EPG circuit breaker. Troubleshoot the EPG circuit breaker according to the literature that is provided by the OEM of the circuit breaker. Verify that the problem is resolved.STOP
