The Electronic Control Module (ECM) controls the functions of the engine.The operator's interface with the engine control is provided by the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) and by the optional control panel. For information on Cat ET, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Service Tools".Many of the engine control's parameters can be programmed for the specific site. For information on the programmable parameters, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control System Parameters".The starting motor solenoid, the Gas Shutoff Valve (GSOV), and other components are used to control start-up and shutdown. For information on start/stop sequencing, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Start/Stop Control".The ECM provides the timing and the voltage for ignition. For information on ignition control, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Ignition System".Feedback from sensors and adjustment of the air/fuel ratio control or fuel metering valve enable control of the exhaust emissions. The G3516B engine uses NOX feedback. For information on air/fuel ratio control, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Air/Fuel Ratio Control".The desired speed is maintained through control of the throttle actuator. For information on governing of the engine, refer to Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting, "Engine Governing".Other sensors enable the ECM to monitor the engine operation.
