--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS9065, "Use of CE Connector Tools."A new family of metal-shell connectors, the CE connectors, replaces the former VE connectors. The VE and CE connectors can be identified by the bayonet-type lock ring. Metal-shell connectors with a threaded lock ring are MS type connectors. This article pertains only to VE and CE connectors.
The parts of both the VE and CE connectors are field replaceable, using the appropriate tooling. VE and CE connectors are compatible. That is, a VE plug will connect to a CE socket and vice versa. Also, the pins and sockets are interchangeable and can be used in either type of connector. The chart identifies the components of VE and CE connectors.
The pins and sockets identified in the chart (except the 8N1538 Pins and 8N1539 Sockets) are machined and plated, and cannot be soldered. The new pins and sockets must be installed with following tools: 1U5804 Hand Crimp Tool for 12 through 16 gauge wire (except 8N1538 Pins and 8N1539 Sockets). 4C4075 Hand Crimp Tool for 4 through 10 gauge wire.
8N1538 Pins and 8N1539 Sockets are stamped, and are to be crimped with the former crimping tool. Then they must be soldered.
The pins and sockets can be removed from VE and CE connectors with the following removal tools.
