1400 Frame End Bracket Removal

In most cases, the terminal box must be removed. Refer to the "Terminal Box - Removal" section. The "Terminal Box - Removal" section contains the information about the removal of the terminal box for the 1400 frame generator.
Remove the PMG components. Refer to the "Remove PMG Components" information that is in the "Exciter - Remove and Install" section of this document.
This "Start By" paragraph applies only to the 1600 frame and 1800 frame generators. Remove the diode assembly, the exciter rotor, and the exciter stator. Refer to the "Exciter - Remove and Install" section and the "Diode Assembly Remove and Install" section of this document. Refer to the following note.
If equipped, then ensure that the wiring to the heater elements has been disconnected.
If the generator is equipped with a "Resistance Temperature Detector" RTD, then the RTD must be removed before the end bracket is removed. The RTD will be damaged if it is not removed. Refer to the "Front Bracket - Remove and Install" section for a picture of the location of the RTD. Note: The 1400 frame end bracket must be removed before the exciter rotor with the complete rectifier assembly can be removed. The individual diode crescents can be serviced (removed) without the bracket removal. Refer to the "Diode Assembly - Remove and Install" section.
The minimum length of the protective strips that are to be placed between the main stator and the main rotor must be the length of the main rotor. The protective strips must be the correct thickness in order to allow support of the rotor during the removal of the generator end bracket and in order to allow support of the rotor after the generator end bracket has been removed. Ensure that the strips are directly under the rotor poles heads. The protective strips will assist in maintaining rotor alignment with the generator end bracket, in order to allow the end bracket to be removed.
Removal
Install protective strips (1) between the main rotor and the main stator. Refer to Illustration 1.

Remove the bus bar assembly (2) mounting bolts (3). Refer to Illustration 2.

Reposition the bus bar assembly (2). The bus bar needs to be repositioned in order to access the end bracket mounting bolts (4) and in order to remove the end bracket. Refer to Illustration 3. Note: Take care so as not to cause any damage to the generator magnetic wire leads. Prevent excessive manipulating or bending of the magnetic wires leads during the removal and installation. Ensure that the wires will not make contact with the metal edges of the stator.
