Now, new half flanges are used at each end of the bellows connections. Also, gaskets are used at each of these four connections. See illustration. No gaskets were previously used at these locations.
Location of new flanges and gaskets at the connections between the turbine housings and the exhaust elbow.The shoulders on the new half flanges extend 2 mm (.1") further into the turbine housings and into the exhaust elbow. This change and the use of gaskets further reduce the possibility of exhaust leaks at the elbow and turbocharger connections.
Adaptable To: The new flanges and their gaskets can be installed on the above earlier engines with water cooled turbochargers, including those with the original couplings and seals used prior to the bellow-type connections. See Chart A or B in the reference article. For engines equipped with the bellows connections, only the new parts listed in the chart are needed.
