3600 Family Of EnginesSUPPLEMENT: 01/00/91ENGINE NEWS, JANUARY 1989, PAGE 4, New Procedures To Adjust Woodward EGB29P Governor/Actuator Linkage" on 3600 Family Of Engines.Disregard this article. Make note of the new article with the same title in this issue.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------Two new procedures are now available to adjust the governor control linkage between the EGB29P Governor/Actuator and the power pad on 3600 Family of Engines. These procedures are presently used during engine assembly. One procedure is used for in-line engines and a different procedure is for vee engines.
Procedure For Governor/Actuator Adjustment (3606 & 3608 Engines)
Reference: Systems Operation, Testing And Adjusting 3606 And 3608 Diesel Engines; Form SENR3599; Page 53; Adjust Governor/Actuator Linkage.
Illustration 1. Locations of governor control linkage on 3606 and 3608 Engines.1. Remove the two plugs from locations (Z) and (Y) on governor control housing (7).2. Remove synchronizing pin (2) from the storage location in the governor control housing. Install the synchronizing pin in the governor control housing at location (Z) without the washer.3. Rotate shaft (6) in the fuel "ON" position until the fuel stop lever is against the synchronizing pin. Hold it in this position.4. Install the 6V3075 Dial Indicator in the governor control housing at threaded hole (Y). Make sure the indicator point makes contact with the fuel stop lever. Adjust the dial indicator until the pointers read zero.5. Remove the synchronizing pin from the governor control housing and install it in the storage location. Install the plug in the hole at location (Z).6. Remove rod assembly (5).7. Rotate governor terminal shaft (3) to the minimum fuel position, and hold it in place.8. Install lever (4) on shaft (3) so the centerline of the lever is 40.7° from the vertical centerline as shown. The pointers on the 6V3075 Dial Indicator will move in the positive direction when shaft (6) is rotated in the fuel "ON" direction and in the negative direction when shaft (6) is rotated in the fuel "OFF" direction.9. Rotate shaft (6) in the fuel "OFF" direction until the dial indicator reads negative (-) 9.3 mm (.37"). This dimension is called the deadband (the amount of travel beyond the point of actual fuel shutoff at idle and the maximum governor shutoff movement).
If the deadband measurement is reduced beyond the specification (9.3 mm), engine overspeed can occur whenever the engine is operated at high rpm without a load because it takes less rack movement to operate without a load.
10. Adjust rod assembly (5) to fit between lever (4) and the lever on shaft (6). Be sure each rod end on the rod assembly has the same amount of thread engagement.11. Remove the dial indicator, and install the plug at location (Y) in the housing assembly.12. Check the fuel setting. See the subject Fuel Setting Check in the Service Manual.13. Before starting the engine, put a mark on the governor/actuator position indicator at the point of minimum governor travel. This is the engine stopped position.
The engine may overspeed due to incorrect reassembly or adjustment,
