Schematic of the Left Travel Forward Solenoid This diagnostic code is associated with the Left Travel Forward Solenoid. The FMI 06 means that the machine ECM determined that the current is above normal. The possible causes of this failure are listed below:
The solenoid energizer circuit is open.
The return circuit of the solenoid is open.
The solenoid has failed.
The machine ECM has failed. This is unlikely. When this failure occurs, a warning is displayed on the message center and the machine ECM disables the circuit. Note: The following test procedure may create other failures. Ignore these created failures and clear the failures when the original failure is corrected. Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. DO not start the engine.
Disconnect the suspect solenoid from the machine harness.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper between contact 1 (wire K944-YL) and contact 2 (wire K952-BR).
Observe the message center while the jumper is installed and removed. The diagnostic information may also be viewed with the ET. Expected Result:The diagnostic code appears and the diagnostic code disappears when the jumper is installed and the jumper is removed. The VIDS message center may take several seconds before the diagnostic information is updated. This is normal. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code alternately appears and the diagnostic code alternately disappears as the jumper wire is installed and removed. The circuit is correct.Repair: Replace the solenoid. Stop.
NO - The failure remains. The harness or the machine ECM have failed. Proceed to test step2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR OPEN CIRCUITS.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J2 from the machine ECM.
At the machine harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper between contact 1 (wire K944-YL) and contact 2 (wire K952-BR).
At the machine harness connectorJ2 for the machine ECM, measure the resistance from signal contact J2-62 (wire K944-YL) to J2-52 (wire K952-BR).Expected Result:The resistance measures less than 5 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance measures less than 5 ohms. The circuit is correct. Proceed to test step3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. The circuit is open.Repair: Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness. Stop.Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS.
Inspect the connectors and clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Clear all the active diagnostic codes from the message center by pressing the OK key.
Operate the machine.
Check the message center for an active diagnostic code. The diagnostic information may also be viewed with the ET. Expected Result:The diagnostic code for the solenoid is not present. Results:
OK - The diagnostic code for the solenoid is not present. The failure was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or an open at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation. Stop.
NOT OK - The diagnostic code for the solenoid is
