At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure. Steam can cause personal injury. Drain the coolant only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the fill cap from the radiator slowly to relieve pressure. Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to avoid personal injury.

Loosen hose clamp (2), and remove radiator hose (1). 4. Loosen hose clamp (5), and remove hose (6).5. Remove three bolts (4) and the washers that secure regulator housing (3). Remove regulator housing (3).6. Remove gasket (not shown) and regulator (not shown). For the installation of the water temperature regulator, reverse the removal steps. Make sure that both surfaces are clean of old gasket material before beginning installation procedure.7. Check gasket for wear or damage. Replace if necessary. Use 8T-9013 RTV Silicone-Redwhen replacing gasket.8. When installing, position the regulator with its air vent hole up.Regulator Testing Procedure:a. Put the regulator in a water tub, and test it for thermostatic action by heating the tub to raise the water temperature.b. The regulator opening temperature is 71 2 °C (160 3.6 °F).c. Stir the water in the bath with a stick to maintain its temperature uniformity during the test.d. Measure the temperature at which the valve lifts more than 10 mm (0.4 in). If the valve fails to operate properly, replace the regulator. Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the coolant system.9. Fill the cooling system with coolant to the correct level.
